Memories Forever

"Did you have a good day at work dear" asked Alice as Stan walked through the door.
"Yes love " said Stan. Same as usual really"
"I'm sorry dear I didn't make you any tea because..........."
"Oh don't worry love I'll make a sandwich after my bath".
Stan went to have a bath like he did every night after work. Then he made his tea, like he did every night after his bath. Alice used to do his tea, but not anymore.
After his bath and sandwich Stan decided to go for a walk.
 Alice went along too.
They loved to go walking together, they always had. They walked everywhere.
"Do you remember when we first met Alice?" asked Stan. "We would walk for miles, go for picnics, and talk for hours on end.
Alice chuckled to herself with an expression on her face that seemed to take her back.
They walked past the factory where Stan worked as a carpenter. He always thought that the factory looked strange at night. So quiet.
Very different from the daytime when all the machines were running and people were rushing around doing their work.
Next they went to their favourite place, the park. They always loved the park.
"I remember when we first met, Alice" said Stan. "It was over there by that tree. It was only about eight foot tall do you remember? Now look. It must be fifty feet tall and still going strong.
"Yes dear I remember" said Alice.
"It's so different now" said Stan, as he stood looking around the park.
"I wish we were young again Alice, even if just for one day" Stan said with a tear in his eye.
They walked past the stream that they used to sit by. They'd talk for hours about the future, about now.
"It doesn't seem like fifty years ago, it went by so fast.
Most things in the park have changed but there are some little things still left that are the same, and the memories, well they will last forever.
"Lets sit down on our bench dear" Stan said.
Stan made the bench at work. He loved to make things, he was good at it too.
"Still as strong as the day I made it" Stan said knocking on the back by a plaque.
"It'll be here when I'm gone I'll bet you".
Alice chuckled to herself and looked at Stan with such love in her eyes. A tear rolled down her left cheek.
"Yes, it'll be here long after me" he repeated.
"Then they will have to change this plaque I made for you.
Stan turned to read the plaque, like he did everytime he came to the park and sat on their bench.
It read,
In loving memory of Alice Rogerson, who loved this place and sadly died, May 18th 2009. Wife of Stan Rogerson.
             Memories Forever.

Stan read the words and pondered on the memories of him and Alice before she had died.
"I love you my dear" Stan said to the figure of Alice that was now fading away front of him.
Alice smiled back and mouthed the words "love you".
Stan was left there alone on the now empty bench. "I'll see you soon dear" Stan said before setting off on his journey back home.
